Today, I wanted to share how to get verified on Mastodon with a WordPress website. Now, there are many ways to achieve this, but I’ll show what worked for me.
If you’re looking to verify your Mastodon account with your WordPress website, then this could be for you.
Let’s go right in!
1- WHAT IS MASTODON VERIFICATION?
Currently, on traditional social media like Facebook, Instagram and X, you usually have to pay a subscription to verify your account and get a “blue badge”.
Mastodon is a little bit different. Instead of relying on your identity and legal name, you’re actually identified by your official website. You do not have to share private documents, anyone can be verified, and it’s completely free to do.
Now, the only downside is that you need a downside is that if you’re not tech-savvy and/or not have a website, then it can be a bit difficult for you because you’ll need one.

2- WHAT IS WORDPRESS?
If you’re here, I’m assuming that you already have a WordPress website and that you know already what WordPress is.
But in case you don’t, shortly, WordPress is a free and open source software or CMS (Content Management System) that lets you easily create any type of website, blog or online store without coding knowledge.
3- WHY SHOULD YOU VERIFY?
Whatever social media platform that you choose to be part of and if you’re serious about it, you should verify your account because it builds a strong and authentic presence.
By giving accurate and complete information, it reflects a certain level of trust and your audience will be more inclined to engage with your content because they’ll know what you’re all about.
4- HOW?
Let’s now see how to get verified on Mastodon using a WordPress website that worked for me.
- Go to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Edit your WordPress website
- In my case, I have a social media block on my website that includes Mastodon
- Edit the Mastodon button
- Put your Mastodon profile link into the Mastodon icon
- Go into the advanced settings and add “me” in the Link Rel text box.
- Save changes and you’re done!
Now, it may take a while for you to see the changes on Mastodon. In my case, it took one or two days.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, an important part of building a strong and authentic audience on any social media platform is the verification.
On Mastodon, the verification is private, available for everyone and completely free. The only thing is you need to have a website. In my case, I love using WordPress because it is free and open source.
