How to Play Guild Wars 2 on Linux (without Steam)

Hey, what’s up?
Today, I wanted to make a video on how you can play Guild Wars 2 on Linux without using Steam.

Last year, I made a post on how you can use Steam to play the game. It was well received, and the method is still working to this day.
But if you don’t want to use Steam for many different reasons, then I’ll show you here how you do it.

In fact, there are many ways and softwares that can help you achieve it such as Bottles, Lutris, PortProton, etc.
All these tools ultimately share the same idea: using Wine and/or Proton to run Windows games.

INSTALLATION BOTTLES

Here’s how to do using Bottles:

  1. Install Bottles from Flathub or in your application manager.
  2. Launch Bottle and create a new Bottle. Give it a name and choose the gaming preset.
  3. Wait for the creation of the environment.
  4. Click “Install Programs” in your newly created Bottle to see the list of programs available.
  5. Search Guild Wars 2 and install it.

Fortunately for us, Guild Wars 2 is rated Platinum in the Bottles’s list of programs and on protondb.com. Which means that it runs perfectly out of the box.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, you can easily play Guild Wars 2 and other video games without having to use Steam. Thankfully, we can use free and open source tools that allow use to run Windows game on Linux.
Here, I used Bottles, but you could make it work similarly with other tools. The most important thing is that it must use Wine and/or Proton behind it.

So that’s pretty much it, I hope this was helpful to you. If this blog was valuable to you, you could consider following me on social media and if you have any thoughts or comments, you can leave them below.

I hope this helps, peace!
